Hyperbaric medicine is inhaling pure oxygen in an environment of increased pressure, inside a hyperbaric chamber. This combination, by the laws of physics, makes oxygen to dissolve in the plasma, activating a series of metabolic pathways in the body, which alleviate neuropathic pain.
Hyperbaric oxygen acts on three levels:
1- It cancels the conduction of the pain through the C fibers (the sympathetic-lytic effect).
2- Activates the nitric oxide pathway, stimulating the production of endogenous opioids (analgesic molecules makes by the body).
3- Blocking the sodium and calcium channels in the cell membrane, decreasing the impulses between neurons that transmit the pain.
Since it is a natural treatment and without deletereous effects, it is recommended to use it for all those processes that occur with neuropathic pain (postherpetic, diabetic, post-surgical, oncological, immune disorders, post-traumatic neuropathy ...) as adjuvant to the main treatment.
